Icon

To celebrate Mei Whaitiri’s 70th year, the original model for Napier’s iconic Pania public artwork, a group of local artists created original pieces for an exhibition in her honour. My woodcut ‘Icon’ encapsulates Mei and Pania of the Reef as one identity, wrapped in a korowai to denote her standing within the community and the significance of the occasion.
